Our Teachers

Ms. BJ Atkinson has a B. S. from Old Dominion University, with further musical studies at Christopher Newport University.


As a published composer, active recitalist and accompanist, and busy church musician, Ms. Atkinson "walks the walk" of a successful professional musician. An exacting and inspirational teacher, many of Ms. Atkinson's students go on to careers in music; every student gains a lifelong love of the piano.

As a member of the Music Teachers' National Association, Ms. Atkinson's students have many opportunities for competition and adjudication. Students also play in recitals and other performance events, including combined concerts with other teen instrumentalists.
 
A recognized expert in music theory and creator of the AP Music Theory and VMTA Music Theory sections of YoYoBrain.com, Ms. Atkinson teaches AP Music Theory to motivated high school juniors and seniors, and arranges for testing through the students' home schools. She also teaches according to the curriculum of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, if the parents so desire: This is a demanding and globally-recognized curriculum, and is especially valuable to British piano students whose families are assigned to our area by NATO.
 
Ms. Atkinson can also teach in French .. a benefit for French and Belgian NATO families

Mr. Robert Capparelli has studied music at New York University and Five Towns College. He owned and operated a recording studio on Long Island and has played in various bands, including his own band, for over forty years, playing piano, organ, guitar, bass and drums. He has played in venues from New York’s Bottom Line to the Paradise Island Hotel & Resort in the Bahamas.

His specialty is popular music including rock “n” roll, blues and jazz, and music theory, as well as chord-based EZ play instruction. He teaches lessons on piano, guitar, bass, keyboard, digital piano and organ, and specializes in lessons for adults and senior citizens.

He also teaches group classes such as “Song Of  The Week” and “Recreational Music Making” (RMM) that explore music appreciation, music theory, and the history of classical, jazz, blues and big band music, and also oversees Group Ensemble classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced keyboard players.

 

Ms. Mun Lee Han obtained her music diplomas in Piano Teaching and Performing from Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music, London. A member of the Music Teachers' National Association, Mrs. Mun Lee Han is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and served as board member for Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA) and Tidewater Music Teachers Forum (TMTF). She teaches an innovative and fun Yamaha Junior Music group class curriculum plus private lessons. She is responsible, caring, patient, organized and creative. In 2007, she was awarded "Group Teacher of the Year" by Jordan Kitts Music. Her students perform in various recitals and festivals yearly. 

 Mr. Clifford Jordan obtained his Piano Performance Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Apart from teaching all age groups from beginner to advanced privately, he is also trained in teaching adult and child group classes. His students have opportunity to perform in Recitals.

Mr. Clifford Jordan has performed in churches, night clubs, private parties etc. Playing Jazz, R&B, Popular and Classical genres. He has also been accompanied large and small choirs and for other instruments. He is also a trained choir director.

Mr. Joshua Miller has been playing the piano for fourteen years. He has a  Bachelors of Music degree with a concentration in piano from Norfolk State University. He has studied piano under a number of conservatory, and concert artist; including: Dr. Ernest Brown Jr., Graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and Jeanette Winsor, Graduate of Kent State University.

Joshua has been teaching piano and general music for three years. He has also worked for: the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia creating educational programs, and teaching music to children in the before and after school programs, NAUTICUS in Norfolk, Virginia teaching the science of sound, and the Parkdale private school in Norfolk, Virginia teaching music and movement to young children. When he is not teaching he does accompanying and collaborative piano work with various groups in Virginia.

Joshua is a member of the: Music Teachers National Association, Virginia Music Teachers Association, and Tidewater Music Teachers Forum.

 Ms. Sharon Palardy

Sharon Palardy has been teaching piano for over 20 years and began playing at the age of 8.  She holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy in piano from Loyola University (New Orleans) and a Master's degree in Education from The University of New Orleans.  She is also a school teacher that specializes in teaching students with special needs and is certified to teach students with visual impairments. 

 

Sharon is a member of the Music Teachers' National Association, Virginia Music Teachers Association and the National Education Association for Teachers.
